Philadelphia Center for Emotionally Focussed Therapy Leader:

Kim Wilson, LCSW

I have a Master’s Degree in Social Work from The University of Pennsylvania. I received much of my post graduate training from the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Cognitive Therapy Diagnostic Program and the Center for Studies of Addiction, as well as the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center for Family Intervention Science, ADHD Center and the Departments of Psychology and Child Development.

During my undergraduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University in Child Development, I conducted research on child/mother bonds that examined children’s frustration levels as it related to their moms’ instructions and encouragement while doing an assigned task.  The parent/child bond has been a long standing clinical interest of mine for decades!  While all of my training has been a valuable stepping stone to becoming the practitioner I am today, EFT training has enhanced my way of categorizing, sitting with and processing people’s pain in a way that no other treatment modality has invited or allowed.

Since 2007, I have been in supervision and training for EFT.  Due to my shift from working full-time in research into my part-time private practice coupled with my focus on raising my two daughters, it took me a long time to obtain an EFT therapist, but the journey was well worth it!  I wholeheartedly support EFT because it normalizes emotion, validates feeling, encourages honesty and vulnerability, shares holding emotional space for another, and deconstructs negative attachment cycles so that healthy bonds can be formed. Essentially, it helps relationships to get unstuck, to build on individual and relational strengths, to develop space for apology, forgiveness and healing and to grow in possibilities.

In my spare time, I enjoy walking the dog with my husband, laughing with my girls, spending time with extended family, vacationing, reading, learning and having interesting conversations.  I also volunteer as a board member for non-profit boards, soccer coach and in a variety of roles in my community and for my church.

If you are a therapist hoping to learn more about cutting edge therapy, or a potential client looking for highly effective therapy for yourself, your relationship, or your family, you’ve come to the right place!
